Good first impression - Top 5 Best TV Show intro
Everybody wants to make a good first impression… and I think TV show directors all have that thought in mind when brainstorming about the intro of an upcoming TV serie. What did I heard? Obvious? Yeah, you may be right, but not every good TV show has a good intro. LOST doesn’t even have one (except for that logo with the woooosh thing).
Recently, out of the blue, I realized that a lot work was put behind those intro, and as soon as you get hooked on a serie, the intro rapidly becomes like a ritual… you’re rubbing your hands at the first chord of Superhero by Jane’s Addiction (Entourage), you’re thinking about how will a character die while listening to the inspired music on Six Feet Under’s opening, or you just feel the lousy mood of your favorite teenage charachter from Friday Night Lights.
Anyway, here’s a top 5 of the best TV Show Intro.
1 - Six Feet Under
This is brilliant. Plain brilliant. Thomas Newman wrote a musical masterpiece for one of the best, if not the best TV show ever. It was with great pleasure that I watched and listen to that intro through the 5 seasons.
2 - Entourage
Jane’s Addiction just prooves with this song that they are clearly Rock n Roll Hall of Fame material and that, besides that, only their songs can make L.A. look nice!
3 - Friday Night Lights
The real intro is no longer available on youtube due to a copyright claim by NBC Universal
The music for FNL’s intro was written and performed by Explosions in the sky. Through the intro, you feel as bad as all those teenagers living a teenager standard life in small town USA. Mixing electric guitar, marching band drums, beautiful actors and the hope you can feel as a teenager living with the world on his shoulders, this is definetely a winner intro, just like the Dillon Panthers!
4 - The Simpsons
Do I need to write more? You just can’t watch a Simpsons episode without watching the intro, it’s just a part of it and it can be change in so many different ways.
5 - That 70’s Show / Friends
That 70’s show intro was improve almost every year and you didn’t even notice (except for all the re-runs!)… Looking back, I think this was the first lip dub I ever watched and the sing along anthem by Cheap Trick just does it for me. We’re all alright!
How did an unknown band like The Rembrandts just turned a simple TV show intro into a feel good TV show intro. After 10 years, they always used the same intro (except with the one with fat Monica!).
